7 Reasons Why Peacock is Now a Must-Have Streaming Service

When Peacock first launched, I was impressed with their features. They went about things in ways that were different from their competitors. My hang-up with Peacock, though, was that their Originals just weren’t quite on the level of other streamers.

Fast forward to the tail end of 2022 when I’m writing this and I’ll say the biggest selling point for Peacock, in my opinion, still isn’t the Peacock Originals.

But what makes it a must-have streaming service is a robust lineup of live TV, sports, news, and exclusive shows and movies that keeps getting better and better, particularly in the past few months.

Here are the seven reasons why I think Peacock Premium is worth signing up for.

Shall I Stream It is viewer-supported and provides honest reviews. To support this work, some links feature partners where commission is earned for purchases.

#1) They have live TV.

Just recently they added the Hallmark Channel and its sister channels Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and Hallmark Drama for subscribers on both the Premium and Premium Plus plans. These aren’t watered down versions of the Hallmark Channel, this is the same feed you’d get with a cable subscription.

And now all Peacock Premium Plus subscribers have access to their local NBC station. This was one of my big hangups with Peacock when it first launched. The brand was so closely associated with NBC, why not included the actual NBC channel?

Paramount+ did it with CBS and now Peacock is doing it with NBC.

#2) There is an amazing back catalog of movies on Peacock.

Honestly I was kind of sleeping on how many great films you can find on Peacock and now this is the main thing I watch Peacock for. Ahead of Halloween I watched several horror classics and Alfred Hitchcock films on here.

And the theatrical releases from Universal now go to Peacock after they leave theaters. That means recent hits like Jurassic World Dominion, Black Phone, Minions; The Rise of Gru, and my personal favorite, Jordan Peel’s Nope are now Peacock exclusives.

It’s a safe bet that other recent Universal movies like Ticket to Paradise will eventually hit Peacock, as well as their upcoming films in 2023 like The Super Marios Bros Movie and M3GAN.

#3) It’s now the streaming home for NBC and Bravo shows that used to stream on Hulu.

Earlier this year, NBCUniversal gained the next-day streaming rights back from Hulu. So that means Peacock is now the only place you can stream current season episodes of shows like The Voice, America’s Got Talent, Saturday Night Live, and shows in the Chicago and Law & Order franchises.

Plus if you’re a reality TV fan that means all your guilty pleasures from Bravo like the Real Housewives and Below Deck are now on Peacock, too.

#4) Peacock has live sports.

It’s where you can stream Sunday Night Football, its where you can stream WWE, it’s you can stream Premier League soccer, and its where you can stream the World Cup- although only in Spanish because it’s through Telemundo.

For live sporting events, you can watch them whether you have the Peacock Premium or higher priced Peacock Premium Plus plan.

Other sporting events you’ll find include NASCAR racing, Notre Dame college football, and Golf.

AND- while we don't have all the details yet, soon regional sports networks (RSNs) from NBC Sports will be available through Peacock, too.

#5) Peacock has live news, both local and national.

On the channels section you have 24/7 access to the digital channel NBC News Now plus a selection of news from local NBC outlets. And every Premium Plus subscriber in the U.S. has access to local news from their NBC station.

Beyond that, you can stream full episodes of news program on-demand like Dateline, Nightly News with Lester Holt, and various shows from MSNBC.

#6: It’s the streaming home for Yellowstone.

This is a point of confusion since Yellowstone is made by Paramount but it is NOT on Paramount+. We have a separate article here, if you want a full breakdown.

The main thing you need to know is that seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Peacock right now, and the fifth season will most likely hit Peacock in the spring.

#7) It’s affordable.

While other streaming services have gone up to $15 a month, $20 a month, Peacock’s regular price is less than $10. And if you’re a cable customer with Xfinity, Cox, or Spectrum, you can even get it for free.

Peacock Premium costs just $4.99 a month. This includes access to all of the movies and shows from their library, including 24/7 access to the Hallmark Channel.

Peacock Premium Plus is $9.99 a month and removes advertising from on-demand content. You'll also get 24/7 access to your local NBC station and the ability to download shows to watch offline.

And don't forget, a limited number of shows and movies are available to watch for free through Peacock as well!
