Crackle’s “Inside the Black Box” Puts the Spotlight on Black Artists

A new season of Crackle’s Inside the Black Box premiered today. The show is a little bit like a mashup of Inside the Actor’s Studio, Red Table Talk, and an acting workshop.

Each episode features a conversation with artists of color whether they be an actor, producer, directer, writer, or musician in a “black box” theater.

The hosts of the show include Emmy and NAACP Image Award winner Joe Morton (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Zach Snyder’s Justice League, Scandal) and celebrity acting coach Tracey Moore. The audience of the show is filled with young, aspiring artists of color who participate in improvisational acting challenges, then get feedback from the hosts and guests.

The impressive lineup of guests for season two include:

  • Wendell Pierce (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Wire)
  • Julito McCullum (Akeelah and the Bee, The Wire)
  • Debbie Allen (Grey’s Anatomy, Fame)
  • Rob Morgan (Stranger Things)
  • Jeffrey Wright (The Batman, Westworld)
  • Malik Yoba (First Wives Club, Designated Survivor)
  • Keith David (Nope, Armageddon)
  • Twinkie Byrd (Director: Narc)
  • Nature Naughton (Singer/Songwriter, Power, Queens)
  • Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show)
  • Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Billions, Castle)
  • Essence Atkins (Are We There Yet?, The Noel Diary)
  • Condola Rashad (Billions, 4x Tony Nominee)
  • Keesha Sharp (Girlfriends, Power Book II: Ghosts)
  • Hisham Tawfiq (The Blacklist)
  • Grace Porter (Spoiler Alert, Godfather of Harlem)
  • Trai Byers (Empire)
  • Cassandra Freeman (Bel-Air, The Last O.G.)
  • Terri J. Vaugh (The Steve Harvey Show, Meet the Browns)
  • J. Kevin Swain (Emmy & Grammy Nominated Director/Producer)
