I've already talked about how impressive the film selection is on Paramount Plus, but their spinoffs of popular shows like Star Trek and Yellowstone are just as noteworthy. Paramount Plus Overview

Paramount Plus is a streamer owned by Paramount, the company behind CBS, and tons of other channels like MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, Comedy Central, BET, and TV Land. They also own Paramount Pictures and the Smithsonian Channel. The service offers a vast selection of movies and TV shows from all their owned channels and more, including both classic and original content. Depending on your subscription, you can also enjoy live TV, news, and sports programming, as well as access to Showtime.

On-Demand Movies and Shows

Paramount+ has something for everyone, with a great mix of old classics like I Love Lucy and Survivor, and new originals like Rabbit/Hole, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Tulsa King.

  • If you're a big fan of movie franchises, Paramount Plus has you covered. You can find almost every movie and TV series from popular franchises like Transformers, Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible, Paranormal Activity, Star Trek, Scream, GI Joe, The Adams Family, and more.
  • For Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. fans, the streaming platform has a massive library of past shows for 90s babies to relive their childhoods with shows like Rugrats and All That, plus the iCarly reboot. And for today's toddlers, there's Peppa Pig, Baby Shark, and Paw Patrol, making it a great alternative to Disney Plus.
  • If you're into Western dramas, Paramount+ is also the home of the Yellowstone spinoffs, 1883 and 1923, with another potentially on the way.
  • And for reality, TV drama, and nostalgia, MTV, BET, and VH1 have a massive presence with hits from the aughts like Laguna Beach, The Real World, College Hill, and Basketball Wives.
  • With a library featuring recent releases like Scream VI, Top Gun Maverick, and 80 for Brady, plus past juggernauts like Titanic and Django Unchained, you'll always find something to watch.

Sports, News, and Live TV

Netflix, Max, and Disney+ don't provide a lot of live sports, which can be inconvenient for sports fans. But Paramount+ has got you covered. If you're a subscriber, you can watch all NFL games that are broadcast on your local CBS station live, no matter what type of membership you have.

And it's not just football, they also have international soccer, college basketball, and golf, among other offerings. But if you want access to everything sports-related, you'll need to upgrade to a Premium subscription. As for news programming, you can watch all the main CBS News shows on-demand, like 60 Minutes and 48 Hours, and get 24/7 streaming from CBSN. And with a Premium account, you can even watch your local CBS station live and stay up to date on the latest news in your area.

Paramount Plus App & Features

The Paramount+ app is available on a variety of devices, including iOS, Android, Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Portal TV, Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs, as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gaming consoles.

Once you're in, you'll find a user-friendly home screen with hubs dedicated to CBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and the Smithsonian Channel, making it simple to find the content you love. And with a range of menus, you can categorize and create a watchlist of your favorite shows and movies.

For Premium subscribers, you can enjoy shows and movies in 4K, Dolby Vision, or HDR10 video formats on supported devices that are connected to a 4K/DV/HDR10 capable TV. And with up to six profiles and Kids Mode, everyone can personalize their viewing experience on one Paramount Plus account!

Paramount Plus Memberships & Pricing

Okay, so let's talk about what plan you should choose on Paramount Plus. If you're tight on cash, the ad-supported Essential plan is only $5.99 per month, or you can save over 16% with an annual plan for $59.99. Just know that you won't be able to access your local live CBS station with this plan, but you can still get NFL on CBS and UEFA Champions League through separate live feeds.

But if you're sick of ads, then the Paramount+ with Showtime Plan (formerly known as the Premium Plan) is the way to go. It's $11.99 per month or $119.99 per year, and you'll get your local live CBS station along with access to all the shows and movies from Showtime in the same Paramount+ app. This plan removes most ads, except for live TV and a few shows.

Take note that you no longer need a bundle to get Showtime with Paramount+ since Showtime is included with the $11.99/month plan. That means you can watch shows like Billions and Yellowjackets, movies from A24, and sporting events like Showtime Championship Boxing altogether in the same Paramount+ app.

Trials and Discounts

Paramount+ offers a seven day FREE trial on all of their plans. On occasion, they offer extended 30 day trials, too!

For college and university students, there's also a 25% discount available on the Essential monthly subscription. Keep in mind that this discount is only available to currently enrolled students at accredited, Title IV higher education institutions – high schoolers are not eligible.

And here's something new – Walmart+ memberships now come with a Paramount Plus Essential subscription at no extra cost. Walmart+ is a shopping service meant to rival Amazon Prime and costs $13 per month or $98 per year.

Paramount Plus Final Thoughts

Paramount+ is just as amazing as it was when we first reviewed it last year. It truly has something for everyone – from Trekkies and reality TV fans to football enthusiasts, news junkies, and even kids. If you want to relive your teenage years during the aughts or childhood memories from the '90s, Paramount+ is the perfect streaming service for you. Nothing brings back those memories quite like watching Tommy Pickles or Kristin Cavallari.

Whether you're a new cord-cutter or someone who's been in the game for a while, Paramount Plus offers access to local content and trending shows and movies. Overall, Paramount Plus is an affordable and feature-packed streaming service that's worth checking out.
