After leaving Netflix on February 28th, the series in Marvel’s “Defenders” series, including “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage” Iron Fist,” “The Defenders” and “The Punisher” will begin streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. on March 16th, Disney announced today. In addition, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will move to Disney’s streaming service as well.
Disney plans to eventually make these series available across all Disney+ markets worldwide later this year.
This marks the first time that content that is more graphic and violent, including shows rated TV-MA, will make its way to Disney+ in the U.S. The series were significantly darker in tone than other Marvel fare, particularly “The Punisher.”
As such, Disney+ will roll out new parental control features they have already included in other markets outside the U.S., where the streamer already shows TV-MA and R-rated content from its various properties like 20th Century Studios.
Every subscriber who opens their Disney+ account beginning March 16th will be prompted to update Parental Controls. They will have the option to select ratings restrictions on every profile and also add a PIN code to lock profiles. Anyone who keeps the default settings without changing anything will continue to have access to all content TV-14 and below.
