Disney has released the first trailer for “Better Nate Than Ever,” based on the Young Adult novel by Tim Federle. Federle, who also Executive Produces High School Musical The Musical: The Series for Disney+, had the task of adapting his own work for the screen as he is the Director, Writer, and Producer for the film adaptation of “Better Nate Than Ever” as well.

The movie is about a 13 year old boy named Nate Foster (Rueby Wood) who dreams of performing on Broadway, despite not even being able to land a big role in his middle school plays. One day, him and his best friend Libby (Aria Brooks) sneak off to New York City to try and land a role in the (unfortunately fictitious) “Lilo and Stitch: The Musical.” He encounters his estranged aunt (Lisa Kudrow) along the way in his journey for Broadway stardom.

The film also stars HSMTM: TS alum Joshua Bassett and two time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz.

Better Nate Than Ever debuts on Disney+ April 1st.
