It's long been reported that a live-action Disney Plus series based on the 2017 “Beauty and the Beast” was in development. Now we finally have some more details. According to Deadline, Disney has officially greenlit the show.

Its tentative title is “Beauty and the Best.” The series will focus on Lefou and Gaston before the events of Belle and the cursed Prince's romance. Josh Gad and and Luke Evans will reprise their roles from the live-action film. They will be joined by Briana Middleton, who will play LeFou's stepsister.

No word yet on whether we will see Emma Watson, Stanley Tucci, or other familiar faces show up as well. Behind the scenes, though, there will be some familiar talent.

Both Josh Gad and the creators of ABC's Once Upon a Time, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, will act as showrunners. Meanwhile the music will be will be written by the legendary Oscar winner Alan Menken. Menken, of course, wrote the music for the original film along with lyricist Howard Ashman.

“Beauty and the Best” will be an eight episode limited series. Production begins in spring of 2022.
